The board of approval, headed by commerce secretary G K Pillai, will also consider requests from realty major DLF for de-notification of its IT-ITeS SEZs in Gujarat, Haryana, West Bengal and Orissa. Larsen and Toubro has proposed to set up an IT SEZ in Mumbai, while Gulf Oil Corporation has moved application for a similar tax-free zone in Bangalore.

India on Wednesday ruled out the need to import wheat this year, as it appears poised to surpass the 15 million tons procurement target. Agriculture and Food Minister Sharad Pawar said that the govt is confident of procuring 16-17 million tons of wheat this year. As per govt estimate wheat production was pegged at 76.78 million tons for 2007-08 crop year ending May this year. He noted that wheat price is stable due to ample availability backed by a bumper production.

Of these 20, some are CFL producers, while others are financiers who are buying CFLs in bulk and distributing them at their own risk. The Central government is certain that the country will meet the wheat production target for 2008-09., inspite of the hailstorms that destroyed standing crops. According to data provided by officials, wheat crops in around 100,000 hectares of land have been damaged in Haryana itself after the recent hailstorms. The exact loss was being assessed and a special revenue assessment will be ordered later. But govt said wheat production estimate remains unchanged at 74.81 mn tonnes.
